Bass Big Muff Pi 2 from Electro-Harmonix
After resurrecting the long-lost Dual Op-Amp Big Muff 2 circuit with the help of JHS Pedals’ Josh Scott, Electro-Harmonix say that they recognised that the pedal would be hit with bass players, so set about developing a new purpose-built version.
The result is the Bass Big Muff Pi 2, a new iteration of the popular design that’s been optimised for bass guitar signals. It features the same pushed-mid ‘grunt’ as the original, and promises to deliver the sustain for which the Big Muff is renowned. New to the Bass variant is a Blend knob that can be used to introduce some of the dry signal, and a Bass Boost function that delivers yet more low-end heft, even while the Tone control is set to higher values.
The pedal also boasts a silent true bypass footswitch with both latching and momentary actions — clicking the footswitch offers normal latching functionality, while pressing and holding the footswitch will deliver a momentary burst of fuzz.
